  • Pick a handful of the best photographs from the contact sheet of all the photograph's documented by my assistant, Jules.(150 photo's in total) A4 size. To go in sketchbook.
  • Develop disposable camera and get them printed A4 size - Pick a small number of the best ones to put up in the degree show.
  • Have edited 2 hour video footage into a 6 minute video. Sped up using Final Cut Pro.
  • Soundtrack over video called 'Awareness - Relaxed', take from a GarageBand sample.
  • Soundtrack refers to the unknowing (i didn't know what the public reactions would be). It has an eerie, spacey, quite strange feel to it, to represent the atmosphere of the live performance.
  • The music starts when a person walks in the space, as that person is creating the eerie atmosphere.
  • The music heightens when there's people in the room, and fades when the room starts emptying out. There's quiet when there's no-one in the space.
  • Final film is 1.22 GB which is saved on my memory stick and will be transfered onto a computer which has the Final Cut Pro software on it in order to play the film. It will be on repeat, playing over and over with the soundtrack playing, and will be projected onto the wall in my space.

Thomas Parker House- Monday 14th March - need to take with me, a 4GB memory stick to put all of the photograph's onto.
Edit video footage- how long do i want it to be? Should i have a soundtrack in the background?
Need to work out what size to get the disposable photo's printed, as these will be mounted in the degree show as my final pieces.

The day after the live performance

The live performance went very well, had some great reactions from the public!. I could'nt of done it without the help from Jules Clune, a third year photography student based at Thomas Parker House. Dave Overton, a photography tutor at Thomas Parker, had asked Jules if he was interested in documenting my performance, and fortunate for me, he was. We made contact through facebook and arranged to meet up on Friday 11th March, to discuss what i wanted him to capture in the photographs. This went well, we talked about the different kind of shots he could get etc and said he would video the performance for me too. He stayed through the whole of the performance, taking photographs and video recording from different angles in the space. In the end, we had 2 hours of video footage and around 125 photographs. There were some excellent participants in the performance, who gave their contact details and positive feedback in the comments book. I have already emailed them asking for their feedback. On Monday, i will be going to Thomas Parker to print a contact sheet of all the photographs taken, pick a handful of the best ones and get these printed out about A5 size. These will go in an A4 sketchbook, where i will write an evaluation on how i feel the performance went, and what i would have changed or done again. I also have a disposabe camera which i placed on the table for the public to use, they could take a photography on anything they wanted to, it was their interpretation. I am excited to get this film developed, i may use these photographs as my final pieces for the degree show. They represent the participants interperation of the performance, thats what its all about. Jules' photographs are also important, but their more a documentary of the performance.

Objects

Take photographs of each of the objects on Friday, after i have picked them up. Get good quality print-outs of the objects for the degree show.

Outcome

The image below is a black and white photograph with 1 letter press text panel of Marina Abromovic's Rhythm O, 1974.

This is the design format i am aiming for to present the still images from my performance.
My photographs will all be in colour and will have the text panel underneath listing all of the objects.
On the board, at the degree show, i will have a vertical panel of coloured photographs of each object.
Need to buy comments book and sign in book.
Need to make signs for the public: 'There are a number of unusual objects laid out on the table, that you can use on me as desired. I am the object. During this period i take full responsibility.'

Technical equipment

Went to see Dave Overton at Thomas Parker House last week about loaning technical equipment. Spoke to a woman called Jackie Fisher, about my performance. She, herself used to be a performance artist and so she gave me some good advice. She said it would not be possible to record six hours of footage continuously, and that when you search for Marina Abromovic's performance's you dont see a lot of video recorded footage. Therefore, the best option is to get a friend to come at any point of the performance and video record just a small part, around 2-3 minutes. Still images are more important than video recordings, therefore, i would need assistance in someone to come and take a number of photograph's of the performance. I have asked Dave if he is free to do the photography, he said to remind him nearer the time, if he cant he can organise someone to do it.
I have emailed Jackie about when i need the video camera, and this will be provided for me.
The outcome will be a series of still images and a couple of minutes of video footage, presented in a slideshow, with myself as a voice over talking about the experience.

Performance Poster

This is the final design for the advertisement poster/flyer for my performance.

Lincolnshire Echo

Rang up the Lincolnshire Echo newspaper to ask how much it would be to place an advertisement about my performance. This would be placed in the 'What's on' section, and would cost around £42.00!.
Another option would be to ask the Editorial section if they would write about my event in the newspaper. Depending on if they think it is important enough, you aren't guaranteed to be featured in the paper.

Performance space

This is the space i will be using for my performance. It is the education room in the Usher Gallery. I will remove the furniture and clutter, allowing space for myself in the centre, the table with the objects on at the side, the camera and for the audience to move around. There are two entrances from them to come in and out of.

What i have done so far and what needs to be done....

  • Written a three-page documentation for the project proposal, why am i doing it? what am i investigating? why Marina has done it? What makes mine different from hers in the 1970's?, rationale.
  • Objects - Looking to use unusual objects which people don't know what they are or how to use them. Could i loan objects from the Lincoln museum?
  • Rang the Museum of Lincolnshire Life. Have reserved 'Technology and Home' handling collection from the 12th March 2011 - 19th March 2011. £3.50 to book for a week.
  • Let the museum know how many people will have used the objects, shown through sign in book; name, time, contact details, date etc.
  • Technical equipment - Jamie has referred me to go and meet with Dave Overtan at Thomas Parker House. He could supply me with 2 cameras which can be on charge for the duration of the performance.
  • Bought a brief case which might be suitable to present all documentation in. It could represent an individuals personal paper work/files. Private - need a secret code to open. This relates to my body being personal and private to me, and the public acting curious to this.
  • Venue - Have asked my contact at the Usher Gallery if it would be possible to do my performance at the gallery/collection on 12th March, from 10 - 2 p.m.. This could be possible, will verify on wednesday 3rd Feb. Take photographs of the potential venue, work out where things are going.
  • Advertising - Once objects, equipment and venue are finalized, can start planning advertising. Possible methods include; social networking, shops and cafe windows using flyers/posters, 'Lincolnshire Echo' newspaper?. Aim is to make this a big press event!. Therefore ring up the newspaper and find out how they can get involved. The Usher Gallery will be able to advertise on their website.
  • 'Confess all to video' - There will be a separate area which will have a chair, camera and a display of masks, This is where members of the public can share their thoughts and opinions openly, and if they don't want their identity shown, they can wear one of the masks provided. I need to design the masks and decide why they are appropriate.
